Dr. ShermakMichele Shermak, M.D.

A native of Baltimore, Dr. Shermak graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from Franklin and Marshall College. She earned her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and was the first to finish a combined residency program in general and plastic surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Board Certified in Plastic Surgery and an active member in the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS).

After completing her plastic surgery training, Dr. Shermak went on to further specialized training in aesthetic and breast surgery under the direction of Dr. G. Patrick Maxwell in Nashville. There she had extensive experience with both implant and flap reconstruction of the breast, to allow the full range of reconstructive options to each breast cancer patient. She also learned the latest techniques in body contouring surgery, including liposuction and body lifts, and facial rejuvenation surgery, including laser resurfacing, facial peels, endoscopic surgery, and facelifts.

She has authored many publications in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Her research has focused on the basic science of soft tissue and bone healing and tissue engineering, and clinically on breast surgery and body contouring surgery. She is a member of the Plastic Surgery Research Council.

Dr. Shermak returned to Johns Hopkins to begin a practice in general plastic surgery with particular specialization in the latest techniques in aesthetic and breast surgery. She is an assistant professor in plastic surgery at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a faculty member of the Divisions of Plastic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
