What is CO2 Laser Mole Removal?

Physicians skilled in laser surgery may use the CO2 laser in addition to surgical removal of a mole.

Why is this laser used?

The CO2 laser has the capability of smoothing out the edges of a surgical wound, after a mole has been removed surgically, to produce a better scar.

Is this laser painful?

The site of mole removal will have been numbed by a local anesthetic, so that the patient will not feel any pain during the procedure.

What is involved in having CO2 laser for mole removal?

After the physician numbs the area of the skin where the mole is, it is surgically removed. After the mole has been removed, the CO2 laser is used to smooth out the edges of the wound to give a less noticeable scar.

Which moles can be removed in this manner?

In general, benign appearing papular moles particularly on the face may be removed this way.  Your physician will decide which moles can be removed with this laser.
